  • Flour + Baking powder
  • Sugar
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Butter
  • Peanut butter
  • Milk
  • Boiling water

What is a Spoon Cake?

Well, it’s a cake that is served and eaten with a spoon. 🥄 I also like to serve it in a bowl, instead of a plate.

How to Make

  • First, make your batter and spread it evenly into a greased/lined slow cooker.
  • Next, you are going to make your sauce. Whisk together the ingredients and pour it on top of that batter. Do Not Stir.
  • Cover your slow cooker and cook it on high for about 2 hours.
  • The sauce will absorb into the cake and give it a moist peanut butter flavor. Some of the sauce will also be underneath the cake. Use this to top off your cake when serving.

Cook Time 2 hours 30 minutes
Additional Time 45 minutes
Total Time 3 hours 35 minutes

Ingredients

For Batter:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 TBSP unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted, then, cooled

For Peanut Butter Sauce:

  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. Line your slow cooker with parchment paper or liners. In a bowl, mix together the ingredients for your batter. Don't over mix. Spread it evenly into the prepared slow cooker pot.
  2. In a clean bowl, whisk together all the ingredients for the peanut butter sauce/layer until smooth. Pour on top of the batter. DO NO MIX!
  3. Cover the slow cooker and cook on high for 2-2 1/2 hours.
  4. Let the cake cool for 30-45 minutes before serving.
