Recipe Notes & Tips
Butter
Be sure your butter is softened for the cake and frosting. This will give them both their fluffy/soft texture.
💡 Tip: To speed up softening your butter, cut the butter into chunks and sit it close to the warm stove for just a few minutes.
Buttermilk
None on hand? Stir a teaspoon of vinegar into the 1/3 cup of milk and let it sit for 5 minutes before adding to batter.
Frosting Notes
- Be sure to cool your cake completely before frosting and store any leftovers in your refrigerator.
- Your frosting will be a bit soft when first made, but, will firm up as it sets.

Can I make this into 4 cupcakes?
Hi Deb- Honestly, I haven’t tried making cupcakes with this batter, however, it should work fine. If you do give it a try, please let me know how it works out and how many cupcakes you get from it. Great idea!
Hello,
I made this cake today. It’s a bit on the dry side. Maybe I should have sifted, then measured, the flour. Other than that, I followed the instructions exactly. But I served it with a warm fudge sauce, so that “juiced it up”! Thanks for sharing!
What a perfect dessert just for the two of us! Hope you are having a great week and thanks so much for sharing with us at Full Plate Thursday!

Thanks so much for linking up at the #UnlimitedMonthlyLinkParty 1!
I love this size for a cake! Living alone means lots of leftovers and as much as I love sweets, I can’t afford to eat them every day. I’ll pin this cute little recipe for later. 🙂 #blogginggrandmotherslinkparty
Thanks Candi! Enjoy the cake!
We also have too many for such a small cake (there are 8 of us), but I love taking a “party” to families who have a new baby and this cake would be perfect for that couple who is having their first or only has one or two little ones. 🙂 Pinned it!
Blessings,
