Make sure it’s cooled completely before adding it to you batter.

Buttermilk

None on hand? Whisk a tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice into 3/4 cup of milk. Let it sit for 5 minutes, then, proceed with recipe as noted.

Will This Work for Mini Doughnuts?

Yes. You can use this batter for mini doughnuts too. Simply decrease your baking time a minute or two. It will be enough for 24 mini doughnuts.

What Kind of Toppings will Work for These?

Any kind! I used a chocolate glaze, but, you can dress these up or down to your preference. See below for a few ideas!

Baked Buttermilk Doughnuts- Big Green House

Cook Time 7 minutes
Additional Time 30 minutes
Total Time 1 hour 7 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • dash of salt
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 TBSP melted butter, cooled completely

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Grease a 6 count doughnut pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon and salt. Add in butter, eggs and melted (cooled) butter. Mix until combined.
  3. Divide batter evenly into doughnut pan cavities. Be careful not to overflow pan.
  4. Bake for 7-9 minutes or until doughnuts spring back when touched. Cool completely before adding glaze/frosting or topping.
  5. If you are making a cinnamon/sugar topping, you can do this while the doughnuts are still warm.
