Recipe Notes

  • This recipe can be easily adjusted when it comes to spices. If you want more heat, add more red pepper flakes. If you want something with a little less heat, omit the red pepper flakes.

Can I Make This With Low Salt or Salt Free Tomato Sauce?

Yes! I have made this with both options and they work great! Just be sure to stick with the same sizes as noted in the recipe and you will be good to go. * see below tip!

Storage

Keep any leftovers in a covered container or jar in the refrigerator. Use it within a week.

Can I Freeze This Sauce?

Yep. Let it cool completely. Then, store it in an air tight/covered (freezer safe!) container or jar. It will be good for a couple of months. Let it defrost for a few hours before reheating.

Can This Recipe Be Doubled?

Yes. Very easily.

Handy Tip

If you are looking for low salt or salt free tomato sauces or pastes…check the label on the can! Some brands marked them ” low sodium” and they really aren’t. Especially, tomato pastes. Some are just generally lower than others and make no notation on the can. Read those labels. 👍
