Chicken Bowtie Pasta Freezer Meal Prep

A hot lunch of spiced chicken, bowtie pasta and tender zucchini is the kind of thing you want on a busy weekday, and these freezer boxes let you have it with zero effort on the day.
Chicken thighs get a bold, smoky spice crust in a hot pan while the bowties cook alongside. Fresh zucchini rounds go in raw and turn just tender when the box is reheated.
Everything is frozen in separate pieces, packed into four boxes, and ready to go straight from the freezer to the microwave whenever lunch sneaks up on you.

Why Chicken Thighs Are Worth It Here
Thighs have a little more fat than breasts, so they stay juicy after a trip through the freezer and the microwave.
Cutting them into chunks before they hit the pan gives you more surface for the spice mix, which turns into a dark, flavorful crust.
That crust is what seasons the whole box, so the pasta and zucchini pick up flavor as everything heats together.
Why Freeze Each Part Separately First
Freezing the chicken, pasta and zucchini in loose pieces before packing stops them from fusing into one solid brick. The box heats more evenly and is easy to stir halfway through.
Cooking the bowties just shy of tender matters too. They finish softening in the microwave, so they stay pleasantly firm instead of turning mushy.
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-size chunks
- 1 tablespoon olive or vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons chicken seasoning or your favorite spice blend (a smoky paprika blend works well)
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 10 oz farfalle (bowtie pasta)
- 2 medium zucchini (about 1 pound)
You will also need a large skillet, a pot for the pasta, a parchment-lined baking sheet for flash-freezing, and four freezer-safe glass meal prep containers with lids.
How to Make Chicken Bowtie Pasta Freezer Boxes
Part 1: Cook The Components
1. Season The Chicken
Toss the chicken chunks with the oil, seasoning, salt and pepper until every piece is coated. The oil helps the spices cling and brown instead of burning.
2. Brown The Chicken
Spread the chicken in a hot skillet in a single layer and cook for 6 to 8 minutes, turning once, until well browned and cooked through (165°F inside).
Give it space in the pan, working in two batches if needed. Crowded chicken steams and never gets that dark crust.
3. Cook The Bowties
Boil the farfalle in well-salted water for about 1 minute less than the package says, then drain. Slightly firm pasta holds up much better after reheating.
4. Slice The Zucchini
Trim the ends and slice the zucchini into rounds about 1/3 inch thick. Even slices mean every piece reheats to the same tender bite.
Part 2: Freeze
5. Flash-Freeze Each Part

Let the chicken and pasta cool completely, then spread the chicken, pasta and zucchini in separate piles on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Freeze for 1 to 2 hours, until firm.
Frozen this way, the pieces stay loose, so you can portion them neatly without everything sticking together.
6. Add The Chicken To Each Box

Divide the frozen chicken between four glass containers, piling it at one end of each box.
7. Add The Bowties

Add a quarter of the frozen bowties next to the chicken in each container.
8. Press The Pasta Into Place

Nudge the pasta snugly against the chicken so it takes up the middle of the box. That leaves a neat space at the other end for the zucchini.
9. Grab A Handful Of Zucchini

Take a quarter of the frozen zucchini rounds for each box. Their frosty coating is a good sign they froze quickly and will keep their texture.
10. Tuck In The Zucchini

Fit the rounds into the empty end of each container, overlapping them slightly so they all fit.
11. Lid On And Back In The Freezer

Snap the lids on, label each box with the date, and return them to the freezer right away so nothing starts to thaw.
How to Reheat and Finish
12. Microwave Straight From Frozen

Take a box from the freezer, loosen the lid to let steam escape, and microwave on high for about 5 minutes. Times vary by microwave, so start there and add 30-second bursts as needed.
13. Stir Halfway Through

About halfway through, stir everything together so the cold center gets mixed with the hotter edges. This is the key to even heating.
14. Check It Is Piping Hot And Dig In

Make sure the chicken is steaming hot all the way through, then grab a fork. Each bite should get a little chicken, a bowtie and a slice of zucchini.
Storage and Variations
The boxes keep for up to three months in the freezer, so write the date on each lid. Once a box has been reheated, eat it rather than refreezing it.
For variety, swap the zucchini for broccoli florets or bell pepper strips, or try a Cajun or lemon pepper seasoning on the chicken. A sprinkle of grated Parmesan after reheating is a great finishing touch.
