Ingredients Needed

  • Ground beef
  • Minced onion
  • Taco seasoning
  • Cornstarch
  • Your preferred liquid

Ingredients Notes

Can I Use a Different Type of Protein?

Yes. This will also work with ground turkey, ground chicken or a meatless crumble. However, these proteins do contain less fat than the ground beef. You may want to adjust the seasoning and browning/cooking the meat will probably not take as long.

Minced Onion

If desired, you can use a fresh onion. Chop your desired amount into pieces ( again, your choice) Add it in with the meat as it is browning.

Preferred Liquid

This again, depends on your preference or honestly, what you may have in your kitchen. You can use water, chicken broth, beef broth or tomato sauce. I have used all of these with this taco meat and it comes out great each time.

Using the broth (s) and tomato sauce does give you a bit more flavor. So, if you go with water, you can increase your taco seasoning. If you use the tomato sauce and the meat seems too thick, add a smidgen of water to thin it out.

Taco Seasoning

Go with your favorite! It can be a store bought or homemade.

Recipe Notes

  • This meat mixture can be used anywhere you wish to use it. I love making tacos and tostadas with it ( see pic). However, it can also be used for enchiladas, salads, nachos, quesadillas and casseroles.

Storage & Freezing

  • Keep any leftovers in a covered container. It is best used within a week.
  • If desired, you can freeze this for future use. Let the meat cool completely, then, store in an airtight, freezer safe, container or storage bag. When you are ready to use, let it defrost. Then, heat up in a skillet ( under low/medium heat) or in the microwave.
